Description:Wo â??Birds Sayâ?? an die Vergangenheit erinnerte und â??Extralifeâ?? auf eine imaginäre Zukunft blickte, befasst sich das neue Album â??Fish Pond Fishâ??, eher mit der Klaustrophobie des Hier und Jetzt. Eigentlich wollten Darlingside ihr neues Album in den Tarquin Studios mit dem Grammy Award-Gewinner-Produzenten Peter Katis (Interpol, The National) produzieren. Dann kamen Corona, Lockdown, Quarantäne. Kein Wunder, dass einige der beständigsten Themen auf dem Album der Wunsch ist, in frühere Zustände zurückzukehren, und andererseits die Veränderung an sich. In einigen Fällen sind Wiederholung und Rückkehr ein wünschenswerter Weg, um mit unsicheren Zeiten umzugehen, in anderen ist die Stagnation der Gegenwart überwältigend. Ein GroÃ?teil des Albums lebt in dem Raum zwischen Wiederholung und Veränderung und überlegt, wie sich diese beiden Stücke ergänzen. Das Gefühl einer â??ewigen Gegenwartâ?? wurde durch die Coronavirus-Quarantäne schärfer. Während der Quarantäne richtete jedes Mitglied eine Home-Recording-Situation ein, während Entscheidungen zum Mix, aber auch zum Komponieren und Arrangieren virtuell getroffen wurden. Es entstanden so die am meisten im Schlafzimmer aufgenommenen und gleichzeitig produktionslastigsten Songs ihrer Bandgeschichte. -
Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 release. Where Birds Say reminisced on the past and Extralife looked to imagined futures, Darlingside's album Fish Pond Fish concerns the claustrophobia of the here and now. Some of the most consistent themes on the album are the desire to return to past states ("Keep coming home," "take me back to south of Denver") on one hand and change on the other. In some cases, repetition and return are a desirable way to deal with uncertain times; in others, the stagnancy of the present is overwhelming. Much of the album lives in the space between repetition and change, and considers how those two pieces complement one another - how either one can be a stress or a salve depending on the circumstances, and how even change itself predictably repeats. As the band sings, "things will change, and change again."
