 | Description: | In 2017, Simon Raymonde (Cocteau Twins) and Richie Thomas (Dif Juz) had both abstained from making music for 20 years until they united as Lost Horizons and released a stunning debut album, ā??OjalaĢā?? - the Spanish word for ā??hopefullyā? or ā??God willing.ā? ā??In Quiet Momentsā?? has its pockets of loss but ā?? aligned to the concept of ā??hopeā?? - the album is more about rebirth than death. ā??I think itā??s more joyous than OjalaĢ,ā? says Thomas. ā??But both albums have a great energy about them.ā? Those energy levels undulate across a dazzling array of moods and voices; as broad as the name Lost Horizons sounds. Take the first three tracks: the melting rapture of ā??Halcyonā?? featuring Jack Wolter of Bella Union signings Penelope Isles, the simmering urban-soulful ā??I Woke Up With An Open Heartā?? featuring Nubiya Brandon of The Hempolics and the quintessentially melancholy-delic ā??Grey Towerā?? featuring a returning Tim Smith (ex- Midlake). Also returning are Gemma Dunleavy, Karen Peris (the innocence mission), Cameron Neal (Horse Thief) and Marissa Nadler. The last three are all Bella Union family members; likewise, John Grant (the lush, choral ā??Cordeliaā??, etched by David Rothonā??s pedal steel and Fiona Briceā??s elegant strings) and Ren Harvieu (a sultry ā??Unravelling In Slow Motionā??), and new signing Laura Groves (the jazz-tinged ā??Blue
Soulā??), all making their Lost Horizons debuts. Dana Margolin of the hugely acclaimed Porridge Radio lends the rampant ā??One For Regretā??ā?? her trademark bristling energy; at the other end of the spectrum, ā??Flutterā?? features Rosie Blair (of former Bella Union signing Ballet School) adding exquisite blue notes to a stark palate of Thomasā?? piano and Fiona Briceā??s strings. Deploying his A&R acumen, Raymonde called on new Swedish discovery Kavi Kwai for the Cocteaus-evoking ā??Every Beat That Passedā??. Also present are Lily Wolter (of Penelope Isles), and C Duncan. A richer and more varied cast list would be very hard to find. - Jewel CD case with decals on front. Clear plastic back.
