Das Comeback der kanadischen Indie-Rocker â?? vielschichtig und groovy mit einem Hauch Avant-Disco. Ende 2016, nach zehn Jahren und sieben Alben, entschied sich Nick Thorburn â??Islandsâ?? ein Ende zu setzen und sich von der Musik zurÃ¼ckziehen. Es gab weder AnkÃ¼ndigung noch Abschied, nur zwei Shows in der Webster Hall in New York und auf dem Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, in Gedenken an den zehnten Jahrestag des vielbeachteten DebÃ¼talbums â??Return to the Seaâ??. "Es schien der perfekte Zeitpunkt zu sein, um die Dinge zu beenden und den Kreis zu schlieÃ?enâ??, sagt Thorburn. Er wechselte den Fokus, verkaufte und produzierte das Skript fÃ¼r einen TV-Piloten und schuf eine Graphic Novel mit dem herausragenden Comic-Verlag Fantagraphics, machte Filme und die gelegentliche BBC-Radiosendung. FÃ¼nf Jahre nachdem â??Islandsâ?? im DÃ¶rnrÃ¶schen-Schlaf ruhte, belebt Nick jetzt die Band wieder, die dieses Jahr mit ihrem 8. Album â??Islomaniaâ?? zurÃ¼ckkehrt. -

Limited green colored vinyl LP pressing. Over the course of ten groove-heavy songs, Islomania flits from the ridiculous to the sublime. On the surface, these songs are all blissful hedonism, tracing the reckless abandon of a progressively wild Friday night. But pick at the scab and there's a darkness. Themes of futility and repetition ("Closed Captioning"), a yearning for transcendence ("Natural Law Party"), a need for understanding ("A Passionate Age") and a deep desire for vulnerability and intimacy ("We Like to Do it With the Lights On") thread the album. "Tension and release exist throughout. Every song here begins bottled up, but there's always a cathartic release by the end. There's darkness and doubt in every crevice of this record, but there's always a release," Nick Thorburn says.
