Hört man sich ??Treasure of Love?? an, das erste neue Album von The Flatlanders seit mehr als einem Jahrzehnt, ist bald klar, dass die Bindungen der Bandmitglieder jetzt tiefer und stärker sind als je zuvor. Das Album wurde während der COVID-19-Lockdowns mit Hilfe des langjährigen Freundes und Mitarbeiters Lloyd Maines fertiggestellt und präsentiert das legendäre Texas-Trio mit Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore und Butch Hancock in klassischer Form ?? Songs voller ironischem Humor und rauem Herzschmerz.
Während einige der Songs hier nie zuvor gehörte Originale sind, besteht der überwiegende Teil der Tracklist aus Vintage-Songs, die die Band während ihrer 50-jährigen Karriere aufgenommen hat. Einige reichen bis zu den frühesten Auftritten der Gruppe in den Honkytonks von Lubbock, TX, wo man gerne mal Willie Nelson oder Townes Van Zandt im Publikum gesehen hat. Heutzutage finden sich vielleicht eher Fans wie die Coen Brothers oder David Byrne im Saal, aber der Geist von The Flatlanders bleibt derselbe: Mit Freunden ist alles besser. - Almost 50 years after the sessions that would make them an "accidental Texas supergroup" (Rolling Stone), The Flatlanders have return with Treasure of Love, their first new album in more than a decade. Completed during COVID-19 lockdowns with the help of longtime friend and collaborator Lloyd Maines, the record finds the iconic trio of Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and Butch Hancock in classic form, serving up a rollicking collection of twang-fueled, harmony-laden performances full of wry humor and raw heartbreak.
