 | Description: | Limited hardbook packaging. Four CD set. Now Yearbook presents a stellar selection of 1983's biggest and best hits... 80 huge chart hits from the year, alongside enduring and well-loved classics. 1983 saw British artists achieving unprecedented success across the world with 'Every Breath You Take' from The Police being the year's biggest seller in the U.S., and 'Karma Chameleon' from Culture Club being the top seller in the U.K. Breakthrough acts, achieving their first big hits - all here - include a staggering line-up of future superstars: U2, Eurythmics, Wham!, Paul Young, The Style Council, Marillion and Thompson Twins, to name a few. 1983 also saw a number of artists who had seen previous releases on the fringes of the chart achieve mainstream success including The Cure and Echo And The Bunnymen, and former punk and new-wave chart regulars saw renewed success including Siouxsie And The Banshees, The Stranglers, Public Image Limited, and Elvis Costello. Synth Pop continued to dominate and Howard Jones, Tears For Fears, The Human League, Heaven 17 and Simple Minds all enjoyed a hit packed year... alongside electro-dance smashes from Freeez, Malcolm McLaren, Rock Steady Crew and Laura Branigan... whilst New Order delivered a genre defining classic and a truly iconic 12 single. NOW Yearbook 1983: 80 songs that reflect the charts in the year that NOW began... and celebrates the diversity of those charts - from the huge hits that are still played on the radio today alongside lesser compiled but equally cherished tracks.Hard-backed case with a 28-page booklet.
The booklet includes remastering information for some tracks but not for others.
The versions are listed for some tracks but not for others. (e.g., 'Drop The Pilot' in the credits is listed as 'Album Version', but only one version: the original U.K. 7" and 12" single 45rpm formats also featured the same version - no single edits or extended versions were released).
The titles above are as they appear on the rear of the CD case.
The booklet includes facts about each track, including the highest U.K. chart position and the month of that chart position*
*The month used is the 'week ending' month of each single's first week at its peak chart position during 1983/4. (e.g., 1-8 entered the U.K. charts in November 1983 but peaked in the first month of the following year. For this reason, the booklet shows '(No.7, January '84).
Publishing dates in the booklet are inconsistent: some tracks use the remastering date, and some don't.
Also, 'Shiny Shiny' is listed as ? 1982, yet the original single from 1983 has ? 1983.
The tracks are not in chronological, alphabetical, chart position or sales order.
Nb: Track durations are from a CD player readout. They are not printed on the sleeve or the discs themselves.
nb2: Artist 1-2 credited as 'Eurythmics, Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart' on the rear of the CD book and in the pages of the credit, but as 'Eurythmics' in the booklet detailing the track listing. Due to new catalogue ownership, 'Eurythmics' will now be known as 'Eurythmics, Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart'.
