Following a nocturnal theme, Quatuor EbÃ¨ne performs â??Round Midnight. This creatively conceived album brings together major figures from different streams of 20th century music: Arnold Schoenberg, Henri Dutilleux and four masters of jazz and popular idioms â?? Thelonius Monk (who wrote the jazz standard â??Round Midnight), Cole Porter, Henry Mancini and Victor Young. Dutilleuxâ??s glistening quartet Ainsi la nuit is complemented by two works for string sextet: Schoenbergâ??s passionate VerklÃ¤rte Nacht (Transfigured Night), and Night bridge, musings on Monk, Porter, Mancini and Young by the EbÃ¨neâ??s cellist RaphaÃ«l Merlin. Viola player Antoine Tamestit and cellist Nicolas Altstaedt complete the line-up.
