With Vienna Stories , Belgian harpist Anneleen Lenaerts pays tribute to the city that has been her musical home since 2010. â??As a reflection and celebration of the journey so far,â? she says, â??I have selected pieces from both the operatic and symphonic worlds that are special to me and tell a story about my life in the Wiener Philharmoniker.â? For the past 11 seasons she has been principal harpist of the Viennese orchestra, undoubtedly one of the greatest in the world. She describes her experience of playing under conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Daniel Barenboim and Mariss Jansons as â??a huge source of musical inspirationâ?.
The heritage of the Wiener Philharmoniker lies in both the concert hall and opera house, and Vienna Stories reflects this in music arranged either for solo harp or for harp and string quintet. There are evocations of favourite orchestral scores by Smetana, Liszt and Johann Strauss, and of operas such as DvoÅ?ákâ??s Rusalka, Pucciniâ??s La bohème (in a fantasy written by Lenaerts herself), Richard Straussâ??s Der Rosenkavalier (an opera that embodies the rich and complex spirit of Vienna), and more. - MEMBERS OF THE VIENNA PHILHARMONIC |
