Description: | Germaine Tillion (1907-2008) was an ethnologist and historian with an extraordinary career. She was a student of Marcel Mauss, a member of the Resistance in the Musée de l'Homme network, deported to Ravensbrück from 1943 to 1945, and committed throughout her life to the rights of women, prisoners and decolonisation. In "Ravensbrück", she gives a unique account of the concentration camp hell. From the moment she arrived in the camp, she observed and tried to make the inexplicable intelligible. She tries to understand in order to survive, she analyses the codes, the human relations, the relationships of power and solidarity. Roselyne Sarazin gives full force to this fundamental text. |
