This acts as their first album to be recorded at their own studio, DTHQ (Dream Theater Headquarters), and their first since Black Clouds & Silver Linings (2009) to include fewer than nine tracks. Additionally, it is their first album since Dream Theater (2013) to both contain a track of at least ten minutes in length and end with the longest track.

"A View from the Top of World" is Dream Theater's 15th studio album and the 5th so far to feature drummer Mile Mangini. It was released October 22, 2021."A View from the Top of the World" is very similar to their 2019 release "Distance Over Time" along with 2013's self titled release and 2011's "A Dramatic Turn of Events".
