Description:September 2021 sees the Reykjavik born and bred guitarist Mikael Máni return with his second studio album Nostalgia Machine, forthcoming on famed Icelandic label Smekkleysa (aka Bad Taste). Nostalgia Machine cites Mikael Mániâ??s personal experience when analysing the music that he creates and enjoying the music that he loves. It aims to portray how the emotions felt while listening become imprinted within what is heard and later conjure up memories of that specific moment when discovered once again. Máni endeavours to capture this powerful sentiment within his songs, by creating linear stories with lyrical melodies and adventurous forms. He hopes that this explanation is simultaneously something that most people could relate to, but also something that is completely personal, in the sense that each individualâ??s experience of music (how it makes them feel and what it reminds them of) is completely unique. Mikael Mániâ??s collaborators on Nostalgia Machine are all up and coming Icelandic musicians that have very diverse musical backgrounds covering not only jazz, but classical, pop, rock and experimental music. The album is produced by Matt Piereson, one of the most successful producers in contemporary jazz having worked with Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny, Joshua Redman and many more. As an executive, Matt led Blue Noteâ??s marketing and A&R departments before being called on by industry legend Mo Ostin to run Jazz A&R for Warner Bros. Records. He signed and in most cases produced a roster of heavyweights, eventually being elevated to Executive VP/GM for the label while making Warner an industry leader, garnering over 40 Grammy Nominations and many #1 singles and albums. -
