Description: | Early English Polyphony is an album by King's College Choir Cambridge, released in 2021. Early English Polyphony includes a.o. the following tracks: â??Hacomplaynt: Marian Antiphon - Salve Reginaâ?, â??Hacomplaynt: Marian Antiphon - Salve Reginaâ?, â??Taverner: Dum Transisset Sabbatumâ?, â??Tye: Mass For Six Voices Euge Boneâ? and more. The album is a classical 2-CD.
Tudor treasures. Kingâ??s College, Cambridge was founded in 1441 by Henry VI. More than 40 years later, Henry VII became the first king of the Tudor era, a period of splendid polyphonic choral music in England.
From its earliest days, Kingâ??s College had a fine choir, but the collegeâ??s important choirbooks have long since disappeared. Fortunately, Eton College in Windsor â?? also founded by Henry VI â?? is still in possession of the Eton Choirbook, the largest surviving collection of church music from the early Tudor period. Assembled between 1490 and 1502, the illuminated manuscript is a treasury of choral music from different sources.
This double album includes two previously unreleased recordings of works from the Eton Choirbook: Robert Hacomplayntâ??s Marian Antiphon: Salve Regina and Robert Fayrfaxâ??s Magnificat â??Regaleâ??. Among the other recordings are works by John Taverner, Christopher Tye, Thomas Morley and, of course, Thomas Tallis (1505-1585), whose work spanned the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I and Elizabeth I. - FROM THE ETON CHOIRBOOK TO THOMAS TALLIS |
