"Thinking Of Home" is a remarkable jazz album by the legendary tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley, now available in CD format from the label Um. Recorded in 1970 but released years later, this session captures Mobley at his creative peak, blending soulful melodies with sophisticated hard bop arrangements. The album features an all-star lineup including Woody Shaw and Cedar Walton, delivering performances that are both emotionally resonant and technically masterful. As one of Mobley's final recordings for Blue Note Records, "Thinking Of Home" stands as a testament to his enduring influence on modern jazz. The manufacturer Um is known for its dedication to high-quality reissues of classic jazz albums, ensuring audiophiles experience these timeless works with pristine sound fidelity.
Hank Mobley uses a sextet for a typically challenging set of advanced hard bop music. The most striking tune is "Thinking of home", a suite consisting of three parts. Although the album was recorded in 1970, it was a decade later that this record was finally released. This was Mobley's 26th and last recording for Blue Note. "Thinking of home" has often been called "the last worthwile album before Blue Note's artistic collapse". A fine album, not only for Mobley fans.
