"Tom Cat" is a remarkable jazz album by the legendary trumpeter Lee Morgan, now available in CD format from the renowned label Um. Recorded in 1964 but not released until years later, "Tom Cat" showcases Morgan's dynamic trumpet style and his ability to lead an all-star ensemble featuring Jackie McLean on alto saxophone, Curtis Fuller on trombone, McCoy Tyner on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Art Blakey on drums. The album delivers hard bop at its finest with energetic performances and memorable compositions like "Exotique," "Twilight Mist," and the title track "Tom Cat." Lee Morgan was one of Blue Note?s most celebrated artists; his hit ?The Sidewinder? became a crossover success that brought jazz to new audiences. The manufacturer Um is known for high-quality reissues of classic recordings, ensuring excellent sound fidelity and packaging for collectors and music lovers alike.

This album by Lee Morgan was recorded in 1964, but for some obscure reason it was issued more than fifteen years later in 1980. "Tom Cat" is in my opinion one of the trumpeter's best efforts next to "Search for the new land" and "The Procrastinator". Indeed, after listening to this cd one wonders why it was shelved for so long. Four of the tunes are Morgan's; "Twilight mist" is a McCoy Tyner original. Despite its initial neglect, the advanced hard bop music on "Tom Cat" still sounds fresh in our era.
