Skid Row is an American glam metal rock band. Founded in 1986, disbanded in 1996, reunited in 1999. It got its name from Los Angeles' Poor District. In general, in US cities, the name Skid Row is any area in which the homeless live. Skid Row was one of the last hairy bands to hit the stars before the grunge wave hit the rock scene. The idea for the project belonged to bassist Rachel Bolan and guitarist Dave Szabo, nicknamed "Snake". Dave was a friend of Jon Bon Jovi and in the early 80s played with him in a couple of teams before the latter formed the Bon Jovi group. After a series of unsuccessful attempts, Rachel Bolan and Dave "Snake" Sabo found companions in guitarist Scotty Hill and drummer Rob Effuso. There was only one problem - to find a vocalist, but the right person was not found in any way. For a short time, the band's frontman was Matt Fallon, but after the guys saw Sebastian Bjork, nicknamed "Bach", the ex-Anthrax member was immediately kicked out the door. However, the young, handsome and talented Canadian was already under contract, and his manager was demanding exorbitant compensation. Skid Row did not have that kind of money, and the situation was settled by Jon Bon Jovi, who rescued his old friend. Bon Jovi not only "bought out" Bjork, but also helped the band with the recording of the first disc. Debut album Skid Row, released in 1989, peaked at number six on the Billboard charts. Thanks to the hit singles "18 and Life" and "I Remember You" the disc quickly gained platinum status, and the song "Youth Gone Wild" became the anthem of American youth of the time. The group gained access to large venues and successfully conducted a world tour. However, the band remained in the spotlight not only thanks to their music, but also to scandals, most of which were provoked by the band's frontman. Two incidents caused a particular stir: when the vocalist was thrown from the crowd with a glass bottle, breaking his head, and he jumped from the stage, as a result of which a fan was injured, and when Bon Jovi demanded a return on the money invested in the group. After 17 months of endless travel, the group felt that they ran out of gasoline for the waste. They played 300 shows and now they wanted to get back to normal for a while. They decided to make a home video for their fans who were eagerly awaiting the release of their second album. The video for "Oh Say Can You Scream" was released in 1990 and included tons of hilarious tour scenes and stage performances. For most of the second half of 1990, the band recorded their second disc, which the crowd of fans longed to hear. Skid Row digested all the squabbles and in 1991 released their second album, which sounded much heavier than its predecessor. Despite the absence of so-called "radio hits", Slave to the Grind climbed to the very top of the Billboard 200 and crossed the platinum mark. The disc featured songs by Rachel Bolan and Dave "Snake" Sabo, but this time Sebastian "Bach" Bjork joined in. The album included chipping material such as "Monkey Business", "The Threat" and three touching ballads: "Quicksand Jesus", "In The Darkened Room", "Wasted Time", which narrated about trust, inlaid with beautiful guitar parts from Scotty Hill.
