zu einer Urge Overkill-Veröffentlichung, die die Welt nicht nur will, sondern auch braucht. - Oui features twelve new tracks from Kato and Roeser - eleven are Urge originals, with the opener (and first single) being a cover of Wham!'s «Freedom!» Add in tracks like «How Sweet The Light» and «Forgiven» and it all adds up to an Urge Overkill release the world not only wants, but needs. Nash Kato and Eddie «King» Roeser met at Northwestern University, formed Urge Overkill (named after a George Clinton/Parliament lyric), and soon released a Steve Albini produced EP on Restless Records. After a string of acclaimed releases on Touch & Go Records (including Stull EP, containing their cover of Neil Diamond's «Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon,» which became a hit after being featured in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction), the band moved to Geffen Records and issued a pair of albums which took over alternative radio. It was a whirlwind decade for the band. It wasn't until 2011 that the world would hear new Urge Overkill music, when the band released Rock & Roll Submarine (which earned a four-star review in Mojo.) Now, a decade later, is the world ready for more? There is only one answer: Oui. URGE OVERKILL / OUI - VINYL LPVinyl LP pressing. Oui is the 2022 release from Nash Kato and King Roeser-their first in over a decade. It's full of their signature mix of rock, hooks, and fancy bling, which is exactly what a post-pandemic planet has needed for far too long. Urge Overkill is comprised of two unique voices. A double singer-songwriter attack. Roeser and Kato, two Minnesota native sons, met at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Pulling their name from Parliament's title track "Funkentelechy," Urge Overkill was born in 1984, releasing their debut EP Strange I... on fellow Northwestern student Steve Albini's Ruthless Records (with Albini in the production chair, as well). After 1995's Exit The Dragon, Urge's whirlwind first decade came to a close. It was time for a break. Kato and Roeser reunited in 2010, playing a set at Tarantino's Friar's Club Roast, and sat on the podium alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman. Two years later, Rock & Roll Submarine was released to great acclaim (garnering four stars from Mojo magazine.) Now, a decade later, Urge Overkill returns with Oui-twelve new tracks from Kato and Roeser, including eleven originals and an Urge-ified cover of Wham!'s "Freedom!"
