Description: | â??The Overloadâ?? is the debut album of Leeds four-piece Yard Act. Spanning 11 tracks, the record rages with the bandâ??s inimitable wit, musical dexterity and tasteful curation. Littered with Yard Actâ??s signature dark humour and knowing cynicism, â??The Overload pokesâ?? fun at society without ever punching down from a place of superiority. â??Lyrically, I think itâ??s a record about the things that we all do - we're all so wired into the system of day today that we don't really stop and think about the constructs that define us,â? says front man James Smith. â??But also beyond that, it's kind of exciting, because thereâ??s still so much we donâ??t understand; how a hive mind set is forged, how information spreads, how we agree and presume things without thinking. Some people think more than others, but a lot of this sloganeering - â??I'm on the left, I'm not wrongâ?? - doesn't achieve anything. Gammons, Karens, Snowflakes, whatever â?? I find it all so boring. I'm just not into that.â?
Yard Act have built a sound that speaks inherently to their birth place of Leeds, West Yorkshire, and yet ties together observations from all walks of modern British life â?? the small-town bloke in the local pub, the anti-capitalist stuck at a desk job, the tired activist in all of us torn between easy complicity and the desire to fight. - Yard Act - "The Overload" - The Overload is the debut album by British rock band, Yard Act. Produced by Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Perfume Genius, Aldous Harding), the album was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2022. Republic Records EXPLICITVery limited edition, signed by the band and the Golden Rover. Only 100 copies of the sleeve were signed and sold.
The band drove a Rover car into some paint and then drove over the album covers leaving painted tyre marks on the sleeves before signing them. Each one is different because of this. A UK version of Billie Eilish throwing paint over some of her album covers outside Third Man records.
All copies were sold and signed on 19th January 2022 outside Brudenell Social Club, before playing the album in full inside the venue.
