Description:Hommage A Diaghilev is an album by Igor Markevitch, released in 2022. The album is a classical 3-LP. 31st March 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of the flamboyant, visionary and influential impresario Serge Diaghilev, founder of the legendary Ballets russes. The Paris-based troupe created a sensation in the early 20th century with its innovative fusion of dance, music and design. This 3-LP special edition, Hommage à Diaghilev, is a reissue of a box first released in 1954 and highly praised for its audio quality. Walter Legge, EMI??s famous producer, conceived it to honour Diaghilev on the 25th anniversary of his death. Among the composers represented are Debussy, Ravel, Satie, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Chopin and Falla. Complementing the LPs is a 32-page booklet, modelled after the original and richly illustrated with historical photos and designs for décor and costumes. The Philharmonia Orchestra is conducted by the Kiev-born composer and conductor Igor Markevitch (1912-1983). He was just 16 years old when he met Diaghilev in Paris in 1928. Diaghilev died the following year, but he made a great impact on Markevitch, who went on to enjoy a particular reputation for his interpretations of modern music. ??What Diaghilev provoked was the spark of genius,? he said. ??He did it with such intensity that almost all the artists who worked with him with him produced their best works under his influence.? - PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA
