 | Description: | Director Michael Apted (Coal Miner's Daughter, The World Is Not Enough) made his feature-film debut with this distinctive drama based on the novella of the same name by H E Bates (The Darling Buds of May). Reuniting Glenda Jackson with her Women in Love co-star Oliver Reed (The Devils), the film also stars a young Brian Deacon (Vampyres, A Zed & Two Noughts). When a young soldier (Deacon) deserts his outfit and hides in a remote farm, the farm owner (Jackson) and he fall in love. But their idyll is shattered by the arrival of a boorish, violent army sergeant (Reed) searching for his AWOL recruit. Unconventional and superbly played, The Triple Echo is one of the finest British films of the 1970s. Long overlooked and unjustly neglected, The Triple Echo makes its US debut on Blu-ray. With her husband a Japanese POW, Alice Charlesworth (Glenda Jackson) was wanting for help around the farm, and intimate companionship... and deserting soldier Barton (Peter Deacon) was ready to provide both. With the MPs searching for him, she chose to dress him in drag, and introduce him as her sister-and matters got dicy when the investigating sergeant (Oliver Reed) took a shine to her "sibling." Michael Apted's take on the H. E. Bates novella co-stars Anthony May, Gavin Richards. AKA: "Soldier in Skirts." 90 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English. | | Actors: |
