Taramis begannen unter dem Namen Prowler bereits 1982 und machten die Clubs in Melbourne, Australien, mit Coverversionen von Iron Maiden und anderen Helden unsicher. Wie so oft entschied man sich zum Schreiben eigener Songs, die 1984 auf dem Demo ,Blood & Honour" landeten. Jetzt musste man nur noch den an Iron Maiden erinnernden Namen ablegen und nannte sich fortan Taramis. 1987 erschien das Debüt ,Queen Of Thieves" auf dem kleinen Label Metal For Melbourne (eigentlich ein Plattenladen).
