| Description: | Rocket 88 was a supergroup of sorts, featuring Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, Cream bassist Jack Bruce, along with Ian Stewart, Alexis Korner & Bob Hall. This live recording is a kind of mini-big band jam session, and is making it's worldwide CD debut.Quoted directly from album notes written by Ian Stewart:
This album was recorded under less than ideal conditions at the Rotation Club in Hanover, West Germany - where the stage is 20 feet above the floor and most people watch from the sides. For some reason, the band was on fire that night, despite a long bus ride and the odd hangover or two. Although acoustically the club left much to be desired, I feel we have achieved one of the best live albums ever, with the sort of feeling that is never achieved in studios. Jack Bruce in particular played his ass off; and by the time "Roll 'Em Pete" ended the set, his fingers were bleeding profusely from playing double bass - something he has only rarely done in recent years. Although the album was recorded on 24 tracks, there are no instrumental overdubs. Everything is as it was on that night, and the editing scissors were only used on one number so that we could have four tracks on side two.
"Rocket 88" is a legendary live album recorded by the supergroup Rocket 88, released in CD format by Wounded Bird Records. The band, named after the classic Ike Turner song often cited as one of the first rock and roll records, features an all-star lineup including Ian Stewart (co-founder of The Rolling Stones), Jack Bruce (Cream), Charlie Watts (The Rolling Stones), Alexis Korner, and other renowned musicians from the British blues scene. Recorded live in Germany in 1979, this energetic performance captures the raw spirit of boogie-woogie and rhythm & blues at its finest. Rocket 88's only official release stands as a testament to their musical prowess and chemistry on stage. Wounded Bird Records is known for reissuing rare and out-of-print albums across various genres, making classic recordings accessible to new generations of listeners. |
