Toronto avant-pop experimenters Bernice follow up their Polaris Prize longlisted 2021 LP Eau De Bonjourno with Bonjourno My Friends, an EP featuring seven remixes of songs from EDB. Frontwoman/Songwriter Robin Dann was unabashedly positive when asked about the project. â??What was better than my birthday this year? Receiving the tracks from some of our favourite musicians for our upcoming Bonjourno My Friends remix EP.â? she said. While the band was unsure what their contemporaries' responses would be when tasked, the overall sentiment was unquestionably positive. â??We were incredibly lucky (and in some cases shocked) that these people quickly said YES when we asked them to take their pick of a song off of our last record to reinterpret.â? We asked Dann to reflect on each remix and she obliged. Her notes are below: Empty Cup (Yves Jarvis Sequel) â??Yves Jarvis made Empty Cup a better song, in my opinion, angel of psych folk softness.â? Personal Bubble (Sam Gendel Remix) â??Sam Gendel popped Personal Bubble and blew it back up into his own future fantasy.â? Big Mato (Kalbells Remix) â??Kalmia Traver and Angelica Bess (of Kalbells) took Big Mato and plopped it into the deepest of grooves and most sexy of landscapes.â?? Dry Riverbed (Vibrant Matter Remix) â??Kieran Adams (Vibrant Matter) chose Dry Riverbed and submerged the song into subconscious bliss.â? Itâ??s Me, Robin (New Chance Retrograde Remix) â??Vic Cheong (New Chance) essentially turned the hyper personal It's Me Robin into multiple personalities of heavenly dub flotation.â? We Choose You (Anja Lauvdal Remix) â??Finally, the only contribution not from a personal pal, Anja Lauvdal (of Moskus) blessed our fanboy and fangirl spirits with her impulsive, duet-conversation with We Choose You's vocoder pass (played by Jake Sherman).â? Infinite Love (Julsie Remix) â??Brother Julsie dusted his musical pollen onto infinite love, now it blooms brand new.â? If Dann seems particularly praiseworthy with regards to this EP, it may be because she is so excited to share the remixes with listeners. â??I think these remixes are coo coo bananas good. I hope others get the same joy that I did when listening for the first time.â? she said. -
