Arguably the very best of Sam Phillipsâ?? and Sun Recordsâ?? â??nearly menâ?, SONNY BURGESS recorded prolifically for Phillips between 1956 and 1959, although much of his output remained unreleased at the time. Indeed, his recorded endeavours yielded just a handful of singles, four on Sun plus one on Phillips International, all of which have long been massive collectorsâ?? items. Sonnyâ??s reputation was built on those wild 45s, i.e. â??We Wanna Boogieâ??, â??Ainâ??t Got A Thingâ??, â??My Bucketâ??s Got A Hole In Itâ??, â??Thunderbirdâ?? and â??Sadieâ??s Back In Townâ??. Bootleg compilations of his studio outtakes reached near-mythical status in the UK and Europe during the 1970s Rockabilly Revival, often changing hands for ludicrous sums of money.
