RED VINYL/1 BONUS TRACKLimited 180gm red colored vinyl LP pressing. Includes bonus tracks. Herbie Hancock's classic 'Takin' Off' + 1 bonus track pressed on limited edition 180g red vinyl with it's own unique sticker, includes specially prepared liner notes by the 'Penguin Guide to Jazz' writer, Brian Morton."[Herbie Hancock] produced advanced music that was also instantly accessible. As one musician of the time put it: 'Once that record came out, you heard 'Watermelon Man' everywhere; kids were playing it on jukeboxes, it was on the radio, guys were trying to do it in the subway. You knew at once it was special.'" Brian Morton.
Recorded at Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, in May 28, 1962. Released as "Takin' Off" on Blue Note (BST-84109) in 1962.
