| | Description: | Im Jahr 2022 feiern wir den 150. Geburtstag von Vaughan Williams, und der Höhepunkt des Beitrags von Albion Record zu diesem wichtigen Meilenstein ist das Album Pan's Anniversary, das fünf Weltersteinspielungen enthält.
Zunächst Ben Jonsons Maskenspiel Pan's Anniversary in der Fassung für die Shakespeare-Geburtstagsfeier in Stratford-upon-Avon, mit der Bühnenmusik von Ralph Vaughan Williams. Im Mittelpunkt der Musik stehen vier gro�e Hymnen an Pan für drei Solistinnen, Chor und Orchester. Da die Zeit knapp war, übertrug Vaughan Williams einige der Tanzarrangements an seinen Freund Gustav Holst. Das Werk wurde nur ein einziges Mal aufgeführt, am Ostermontag 1905, und wurde für diese Aufnahme rekonstruiert.
Es gibt zwei gesprochene Stimmen, hier gespielt von Timothy West und Samuel West. Die Solisten Mary Bevan, Sophie Bevan und Jess Dandy werden vom Chor des Clare College, Cambridge, und der Britten Sinfonia unter der Leitung von William Vann begleitet. Thomas Gould, der Leiter der Britten Sinfonia, spielt einige Tänze, die für Violine solo und Violine mit Schlagzeug arrangiert wurden.
Zusätzlich zu diesem Hauptwerk gibt es drei kürzere (aber schöne) Uraufführungen. Peace, Come Away und To Sleep! To Sleep! sind zwei Vertonungen von Gedichten von Tennyson, die Vaughan Williams als Student schrieb. Sie wurden von dem Komponisten Christopher Gordon orchestriert und bearbeitet, der auch Margery Wentworth, eine viel spätere Vertonung von Gedichten von John Skelton, orchestriert hat.
Timothy Burke schlie�lich arrangierte die Fantasia on a Theme von Thomas Tallis für Stimmen und Streichoktett als innovatives Lockdown-Projekt. Dies ist die erste Gesamtaufnahme mit dem Chor (39 Stimmen) und dem Oktett unter einem Dach. Die in der Fantasia vertonten Worte stammen aus der englischen �bersetzung von Psalm 65 aus dem Psalter von Erzbischof Parker, der Quelle für Tallis' ursprüngliche Vertonung, die ebenfalls auf dieser CD zu hören ist.
Dieses ehrgeizige Projekt wurde gro�zügig vom The Vaughan Williams Charitable Trust und von vielen Mitgliedern der Ralph Vaughan Williams Society unterstützt. - .. PAN'S ANNIVERSARY AND OTHER WORKSIn 2022, we celebrate Vaughan Williams's 150th birthday, and the pinnacle of Albion Record's contribution to this important milestone is this Pan's Anniversary album, which contains five world premiere recordings. First, Ben Jonson's masque Pan's Anniversary, as adapted for the Shakespeare Birthday Celebration at Stratford-upon-Avon, with incidental music by Ralph Vaughan Williams. At the heart of the music are four great Hymns to Pan for three female soloists, chorus and orchestra. Time was short, so Vaughan Williams delegated some of the dance arrangements to his friend Gustav Holst. The work was performed just once, on Easter Monday 1905 and was reconstructed for this recording. There are two spoken parts, played here by Timothy West and Samuel West. The soloists Mary Bevan, Sophie Bevan and Jess Dandy are joined by the Choir of Clare College, Cambridge, and Britten Sinfonia under the baton of William Vann. Thomas Gould, the leader of Britten Sinfonia, plays some dances arranged for solo violin, and violin with side-drum. In addition to this major work, we have three shorter premieres. Peace, Come Away and To Sleep! To Sleep! Are two settings of poems by Tennyson that Vaughan Williams wrote when he was a student. They have been orchestrated and edited by the composer Christopher Gordon. Finally, Timothy Burke made an arrangement of the Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis for voices and string octet as an innovative lockdown project. This is the first full recording with the choir (of 39) and octet under one roof. The words set in the Fantasia were taken from the English translation of Psalm 65 from Archbishop Parker's Psalter, the source for Tallis's original setting.
