Description: | Das Album â??Yakhalâ?? Inkomoâ?? des Mankunku Quartet aus dem Jahr 1968 enthält eine gute halbe Stunde Jazz in Perfektion. Dieses Album würde sich, ohne dabei überheblich sein zu wollen, bequem unter den besten Werken der Jazzlabels Blue Note, Prestige oder Impulse einreihen lassen. Ursprünglich auf dem kleinen südafrikanischen Label World Record Co. veröffentlicht, entwickelte es sich zu einem Sammlerobjekt, das zu horrenden Preisen gehandelt wurde. Der Tenorsaxofonist Winston â??Mankunkuâ?? Ngozi nahm die Session mit zwei eigenen Kompositionen sowie Stücken von Horace Silver und John Coltrane am 23. Juli 1968 mit seinem Quartett in Johannesburg auf. Auffallend ist, dass Mankunkus Kompositionen ohne Weiteres mit denen Silvers und Coltranes mithalten können. Ray Nkwe, Produzent und Präsident der Jazz Appreciation Society of South Africa, schreibt auf dem Cover: â??Dies ist die LP, auf die jeder Jazzfan gewartet hatâ??. Er hat sich nicht geirrt. - Special edition featuring tip-on sleeve and OBI, half-speed mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios.
