Description: | Strange as it may seem, the legendary Paramount Records actually began in the 1920's as an adjunct to the Wisconsin Furniture Store. The company stumbled upon the radical idea that it might sell more phonographs if it had records to sell with them. After hiring a black A&R man by the name of J. Mayo Williams, the label began to record some of the most successful artists of the period including Ma Rainey, Charley Patton, Willie Brown, Charlie Jackson and others. This is a tribute to Paramount's artists, and it contains fresh interpretations of classic material. Features Rhonda Vincent, Sue Foley, Langhorne Slim, Eileen Ivers and Tommy McDonnell, the Hellhounds, Michael Hill, Deanna Bogart and others. |
