Description:Im Jahr 2022 feiern wir den 150. Jahrestag der Geburt von Vaughan Williams, und es gibt keine bessere Art und Weise, dies zu tun, als mit diesem Album mit Brass Band Musik. Das Album enthält drei Stücke des Komponisten für Brass Band - Henry the Fifth Overture, Prelude on Three Welsh Hymns und Variations for Brass Band. Darüber hinaus hören wir die Brass-Band-Version des Tuba-Konzerts und viele neue Bearbeitungen beliebter Stücke von Paul Hindmarsh (der das Album kuratiert und produziert hat) und Phillip Littlemore. Die Ursprünge der Tredegar Town Band gehen auf das Jahr 1849 zurück - die Band wurde 1876 formell gegründet. In den letzten 40 Jahren hat sich die Band zu einer der weltbesten Brass-Band-Künstler entwickelt, die 2010 und 2013 den Titel bei den British Open gewann. Im Jahr 2022 belegten sie bei den Europameisterschaften in Birmingham den vierten Platz. Die preisgekrönte Tredegar Town Band wird von ihrem musikalischen Leiter Ian Porthouse und dem besonderen Gastdirigenten Martyn Brabbins geleitet. Die Aufnahme wurde in der Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, gemacht und von Steve Portnoi bearbeitet. Ian Porthouse übernahm den Taktstock der Tredegar Town Band im 2008 und hat die Band seitdem jedes Jahr zu den National Finals geführt. Zurzeit ist er Leiter der Brass Band Studies am Birmingham Conservatoire und ein gefragter professioneller Dirigent, Dozent und Wertungsrichter. Martyn Brabbins, der inzwischen auch als Dirigent bekannt ist, begann seine musikalische Laufbahn als Euphonium- und Trompetenspieler; zu seinen zahlreichen Aufnahmen gehören der komplette Zyklus der neun Sinfonien von Vaughan Williams (für Hyperion) und das für einen Grammy nominierte Album Discoveries von Albion. In 2022 we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Vaughan Williams, and there is no better way to do so than with this album of brass band music, released on 5 August. Vaughan Williams wrote three pieces for brass band - Henry the Fifth Overture, Prelude on Three Welsh Hymns and Variations for Brass Band, the latter commissioned for the National Brass Band Championships in 1957. Another major work - the Tuba Concerto - originally for Tuba and Orchestra, has been arranged for brass band. This album brings together these works with many new arrangements of some popular pieces by Paul Hindmarsh (who curated and produced the album) and Phillip Littlemore. The award-winning Tredegar Town Band is conducted by Martyn Brabbins and Ian Porthouse. The recording was made in Brangwyn Hall, Swansea and engineered by Steve Portnoi. The origins of Tredegar Town Band date back to 1849, and the band was formally constituted in 1876. Over the last 40 years they have become one of the world's elite brass band performers, claiming the British Open title in 2010 and again in 2013. In 2022 they came 4th at the European Championships in Birmingham.
