This version of Jose De Baquedano: Musica Para La Catedral De Santiago comes as a 1xCD. - .. MUSICA PARA LA CATEDRAL DE SANTIAGOSituated on the very western edge of Europe, Santiago de Compostela has been a spiritual and artistic center since the Middle Ages. In the seventeenth century, it's cathedral enjoyed a golden age that led to the transformation of it's Romanesque structure into a Baroque landmark. There, a polychoral style was abundantly cultivated, giving both solemnity and grandeur to religious ceremonies. Among the maestros that served the Compostela cathedral, José de Baquedano stands out. A Navarran composer who perfected his artform with Matías Ruiz at the Royal Monastery of the Incarnation in Madrid, he left a notable vocal legacy in Spanish and Latin after three decades of practice. Therein, his pieces written for Holy Week are especially remarkable. This recording offers a novel anthology of Baquedano's Latin work, with a selection of motets, psalms and lamentations written for two and three choirs, revealing the magnificent talent of this composer from Finisterre."Música para la catedral de Santiago" is a captivating CD that brings to life the rich musical heritage of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Performed by Albert Recasens and his acclaimed ensemble La Grande Chapelle, this recording explores sacred music composed for one of Spain?s most iconic pilgrimage sites. The album features works from various periods, highlighting both medieval chants and Renaissance polyphony associated with the cathedral's liturgical traditions. Albert Recasens is renowned for his scholarly approach and expressive interpretations in early music; under his direction, La Grande Chapelle has received numerous awards including several distinctions from international critics for their historically informed performances. The label behind this release, Lauda Musica, specializes in high-quality recordings of early and sacred music, earning a reputation among connoisseurs for its dedication to authenticity and artistic excellence. |
