Linda Martell was the first African-American woman to make the country charts and to appear at the Grand Ole Opry. As one of the first African-American country performers, Martell helped lay the groundwork for future artists of color in the genre. Despite multiple TV appearances, a dozen appearances at the Opry, and some big hits - including "Color Him Father", "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" and "Bad Case of the Blues" - her 1970 debut album, Color Me Country, would be her last. Now the album is being remastered for it's first vinyl pressing in over half a century. Org Music's reissue was mastered by Dave Gardner at Infrasonic Mastering and pressed on color vinyl at Furnace Record Pressing, exclusively for Record Store Day 2022.
"Color Me Country" is the groundbreaking LP by Linda Martell, released by Org Music. Originally issued in 1970, this album marks a historic moment as Linda Martell became one of the first Black female artists to break into country music. The record features soulful renditions and heartfelt storytelling that blend traditional country with elements of soul and gospel, showcasing her unique voice and emotional depth. Tracks like "Bad Case of the Blues" and "Color Him Father" highlight her versatility and powerful delivery.
