Description:Kenji Miura rose to prominence in 2019 as winner of the Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition in Paris, endorsed by jury chair Martha Argerich and her vice-chair Bertrand Chamayou. In his first recording for Warner Classics, the Japanese pianist ponders on the issue of identity with a programme that imaginatively combines music of the French school with two pieces by Toru Takemitsu, a Japanese composer strongly influenced by France and by the Second Viennese School. Born in Kobe in 1993, Kenji Miura studied in the UK and in Berlin, where he is now based. â??The concept of identity has been an issue in many fields in recent years,â? he writes. â??Composers and their works have always been intertwined with the cultural and political landscape of their time â?¦ This album is a reflection of my own personal struggle with identity. We live in an increasingly multi-ethnic and multicultural society â?? my torn-between-worlds feeling is shared by many around the world. This is my small musical letter to all those struggling with the many aspects of identity â?? a concept that should help us embrace who we are and our complicated, beautiful lives.â? - WORKS BY FRANCK/DEBUSSY/RAVEL/TAKEMITSU
