Der legendÃ¤re Saxophonist Ben Webster jetzt auf Vinyl erhÃ¤ltlich. Dieses Album ist eine Sammlung klassischer Melodien aus dem Repertoire von Ben Websters berÃ¼hmtem langjÃ¤hrigem Arbeitgeber Duke Ellington. Das Album besteht aus drei Live-Radiositzungen mit der Danish Radio Big Band in den Jahren 1969 und 1971 sowie aus Live-Konzertsitzungen mit zwei verschiedenen Begleittrios (Finnland 1967 und DÃ¤nemark 1969). Abgesehen von einem StÃ¼ck basieren alle Auftritte mit der Danish Radio Big Band auf Ellingtons Originalpartituren. Auch die Quartettsitzungen sind groÃ?artig - eine mit Bens Boss aus den frÃ¼hen 1930er Jahren, Teddy Wilson, und die andere mit Kenny Drew. Dass Ben Webster einer der unbestrittenen JazzgrÃ¶Ã?en auf dem Tenorsaxophon war - sowohl im Big-Band- als auch im Small-Group-Kontext - wird auf diesem feinen Album reichlich illustriert. -

This album is a collection of classic melodies from the repertoire of Ben Webster's famous employer of many years, Duke Ellington. The album is comprised of three live radio sessions with the Danish Radio Big Band in 1969 and 1971, plus live concert sessions with two different backing trios (Finland in 1967 and Denmark in 1969). Aside from one tune, all the performances with the Danish Radio Big Band are based on Ellington's original scores. The quartet sessions are also great - one with Ben's boss from the early 1930's, Teddy Wilson, and the other with Kenny Drew. That Ben Webster was one of the undisputed jazz greats on the tenor saxophone - both in a big band and small group context - is amply illustrated on this fine album.

Came with an obi for the 'Storyville Vinyl Remasters' and a plain white inner sleeve. On the back cover in the credits for tracks B3 and B5 trombones is incorrectly written as 'tronbones'.
