Discovered by Shelby Singleton, Jeannie C. Riley rose to fame upon recording Tom T. Hall's "Harper Valley P.T.A." The track (which was recorded live in two takes) shot to #1 on the Country and Pop charts in 1968, making the crossover hit singer the first woman to hold the spots simultaneously.
