"Saturday Night Special" ist wahrscheinlich das bekannteste Stück aus dem vielfältigen und innovativen Katalog des Strata-Labels und hat mit seiner einzigartigen, stimmungsvollen und unaufdringlichen �sthetik die Herzen von Musikfans und DJs weltweit erobert. "Als ich das erste Mal die Lyman Woodard Organization 'Saturday Night Special' hörte", sagt DJ Amir, "dachte ich, es sei ein Song aus einem Blaxploitation-Soundtrack. Als mir klar wurde, dass Lyman aus Detroit stammt, dachte ich sofort, wenn es jemals einen Titelsong für Detroit geben würde, dann wäre es 'Saturday Night Special'." Als DJ Amir und Jazzanova mit der Arbeit an dem Projekt "Reimagined" begannen, das dem Archiv von Strata Records neues Leben einhauchen sollte, stand dieser Jazz-Funk-Klassiker ganz oben auf der Liste der "Musts", die die Band neu interpretieren sollte. "Ich hatte keine Ahnung, in welche Richtung sie musikalisch gehen würden", sagt Amir. "Der ursprüngliche Song war mehr als ein paar Mal gesampelt worden, aber meiner Meinung nach war das nie geschmackvoll gemacht. Aber schon bei der ersten Probe wusste ich, dass sie genau die richtige Richtung eingeschlagen hatten! Kai Alcés 'NDATL'-Remix von 'Saturday Night Special' (benannt, wie sein Label, nach seinen drei Heimatstädten New York, Detroit, ATLanta) bringt eine trittsichere Leichtigkeit in Jazzanovas Version des Songs und holt das absolute Maximum aus den herausragenden Bläsersoli des Tracks heraus. Mit diesem Remix dehnt er den Track zu einem siebenminütigen Groove aus, der in Richtung einer souligen House/Future Jazz-Interpretation geht. Zusammen mit seinen Berliner Produktionspartnern liefert Re.decay-DJ Amir ein Low-Slung-Remix von "Saturday Night Special", bei dem er so viele Teile der Jazzanova-Version wie möglich verwendet. "Wir haben versucht, das Intro zu einem meiner Lieblings-Jazz-Dance-Tracks, 'Expansions' von Lonnie Liston Smith", sagt Amir. Die Mission ist erfüllt. - .. Possibly the best-known piece of music from the Strata label's diverse and innovative catalogue, the unique, low-fi, moody, understated aesthetic of 'Saturday Night Special' has captured the hearts of music fans and DJs worldwide. "When I first heard the Lyman Woodard Organization 'Saturday Night Special'," says DJ Amir, "I thought it was a song from a Blaxploitation soundtrack. Once I realized that Lyman was from Detroit, I immediately thought that if there was ever a 'theme song' for Detroit that 'Saturday Night Special' would be it. There is such a cinematic vibe to the song full of grit, rawness, and determination that just soaks into your veins. This album/song will always be in my bag of records to survive the apocalypse with!'" When DJ Amir and Jazzanova began work on the 'Reimagined' project, breathing new life into the Strata Records archive, this jazz-funk classic was right at the top of the list of 'musts' for the band to re-interpret. "I had no idea what direction they were going to go, musically" says Amir. "The original song had been sampled more than a few times, but in my opinion, it was never done tastefully. However, from the first practice session, I knew that they were spot on with the right direction! Their version is the perfect blend of Detroit and Berlin!"
