 | Description: | Nabihah Iqbal returns with â??DREAMERâ??, her long-awaited
new album out 28th April on Ninja Tune. Five years on
since the London-born artist, curator, broadcaster and
lecturer's debut â??Weighing Of The Heartâ?? was released
and two years in the making, â??DREAMERâ?? is Nabihahâ??s
rawest and most reflective work to date. Alongside the
announcement Nabihah shares shoegaze inspired single
â??This World Couldnâ??t See Usâ? - the first track to be
released from the album, which finds Nabihahâ??s voice
shimmering above an infectious melodic beat.
The record arrives at a pivotal time for Nabihah who has
made her prolific work rate look effortless with a resume
as varied as her music having recently collaborated with
artist Zhang Ding, been commissioned to compose music
for the Turner Prize, collaborated with Wolfgang Tillmans
as part of his Tate Modern exhibition and was recently
involved in a group performance at the Barbican as part
of its major Basquiat retrospective. She has also
contributed to Serpentine's recent book '140 Artists' ideas
for Planet Earth' and has given guest lectures at the Royal
College of Art. In 2022 Nabihah was announced as a
guest director for Englandâ??s largest multi-arts festival,
Brighton Festival, in 2023, her â??biggest, most challenging
and exciting curatorial positionâ? to date. - "Dreamer" is the captivating 2023 album by Nabihah Iqbal, released in CD format by the renowned label Ninja Tune. This record marks a deeply personal and introspective journey for Iqbal, blending shimmering synths, lush guitar textures, and poetic lyricism to create an atmospheric soundscape that traverses dream pop, indie rock, and electronic music. The album explores themes of memory, identity, loss, and hope?reflecting Iqbal's resilience through challenging times. Known for her innovative approach to genre fusion and storytelling through soundscapes, "Dreamer" stands as a testament to her artistic evolution.
Nabihah Iqbal is a British musician celebrated for her boundary-pushing work across electronic music scenes. Formerly known under the moniker Throwing Shade before embracing her real name in 2017 with the acclaimed debut "Weighing of the Heart," she has performed at major festivals worldwide and collaborated with artists such as Wolfgang Tillmans. Her unique blend of influences?from post-punk to South Asian sounds?has garnered critical praise from outlets like Pitchfork and BBC Radio.
The manufacturer Ninja Tune is one of the most influential independent labels globally since its founding in London in 1990 by Coldcut (Matt Black & Jonathan More).
