Celestial Season originally started as an early death/doom metal band. Having released their first material in 1992, the Dutch band developed a romantic, violin-led sound which partially mirrored (but mostly coincidentally existed with) the classic â??Hammyâ?? Peaceville sound (My Dying Bride, Anathema, Paradise Lost a.o.). Having released two classic gothic/death/doom metal albums (â??Forever Scarlet Passionâ??-1993 and â??Solar Loversâ??-1995), Celestial Season abruptly shifted to a more stoner rock-oriented sound, casting off their original doom metal sound for half a decade before folding in 2001. In the year 2011 Celestial Season surprisingly regrouped with a mix of their â??doom eraâ??-lineups. The fans had to wait until 2020 when â??The Secret Teachingsâ?? saw the light, which marked their return to their original â??sad & slowâ?? doom sound. In 2022, we were blessed with yet another Celestial Season album. â??Mysterium Iâ?? was a further continuation of that classic 1990s gloomy doom sound, and now we are in for another treat on â??Mysterium IIâ?. This new album picks up where â??Iâ? left off stylistically, but now with even more weeping string sections, forlorn piano lines & slow-moving doom compositions, full of bleak despair and melancholic beauty! -

Fall 2022 sees Dutch Doom pioneers Celestial Season release their second full-length album entitled 'Mysterium II', as part of the Mysterium trilogy. 'Mysterium I'. The first of a trilogy, saw it's release in the spring on 2022 and received raving re-views putting the band back into the position as masters of the doom/death genre. 'Mysterium III' will follow and see it's release mid 2023. 'Mysterium II' dives into the more funeral and melancholic side of Celestial Season, songs which are reminiscent of their 1994 demo leading up to the '95 classic 'Solar Lovers', with focus on long violin and cello interludes woven in with the signature Celestial twin guitar melodies.
