Description: | Rinaldo Alessandrini and Concerto Italiano dedicate their new album to the motets of
Giovanni Legrenzi (1626-1690), a very influential composer of the seicento, and a
reference even after his time in Italy. We rediscover him today. The name Giovanni
Legrenzi, almost contemporary with Carissimi and Lully, is largely unknown today. And
yet his reputation during and after his time, far exceeded the walls of Saint Markâ??s in
Venice, where he officiated from 1685 until his death: his numerous pupils included
Lotti, Caldara and Vivaldi, his themes wereborrowed by Bach and Handel, and he
composed in all musical genres, instrumental and vocal, sacred and profane. It is from
these four publications devoted to the motet in Legrenziâ??s lifetime that Rinaldo
Alessandrini has drawn the pieces for this new programme. - "Giovanni Legrenzi: Mottetti" is a captivating CD release featuring the renowned ensemble Concerto Italiano under the direction of Rinaldo Alessandrini. This album brings to life the expressive and intricate motets of Giovanni Legrenzi, one of the most influential composers of the Italian Baroque era. The recording showcases both vocal brilliance and instrumental finesse, capturing Legrenzi?s rich harmonic language and emotional depth. Rinaldo Alessandrini, celebrated for his profound interpretations of early music, has led Concerto Italiano to international acclaim with numerous award-winning recordings that have set new standards in historically informed performance practice. Released by Naive Classique / Indigo, a distinguished label known for its commitment to high-quality classical productions and innovative artist collaborations, this CD is an essential addition for lovers of baroque sacred music. |
