Enigmatic psychedelic proto-prog act Five Day Rain was formed in Sussex in the late 1960s by guitarist Rick Sharpe and bassist Clive Shepherd of Iron Prophet, and keyboardist Graham Maitland, who had been in Les Fleur Des Lys with Bryn Haworth, whose brother Kim joined on drums.
This mythic self-titled debut has pop harmonies from all 3 members of America in places, the prog spiced with shades of blues, but somehow only 15 acetates were cut before a dispute quashed the project. This lost gem is as unique as it is rare, prefacing Procol Harum, Elton John and Styx in equal measure; grab it and be blown away by the musical complexity.
