Millie Jacksonâ??s first single was released on the MGM label in 1969 but her career took off when she signed to Spring where she teamed up with producer Raeford Gerald. The single â??A Child Of God (Itâ??s Hard To Believe)â??/ â??Youâ??re The Joy Of My Lifeâ?? was a Top 30 R&B hit and â??Ask Me What You Wantâ??/â??I Just Canâ??t Stand Itâ??, â??My Man, A Sweet Manâ??/â??I Gotta Get Away From My Own Selfâ?? and â??I Miss You Babyâ??/â??I Ainâ??t Giving Upâ?? not only did more damage on the R&B chart but also entered the Hot 100. All four singles appeared on her debut LP â??Millie Jacksonâ?, issued on Spring in 1972. -
