 | Description: | Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. From a bunch of school friends setting out to be 'the British Jefferson Airplane', over the course of their first quartet of releases, the group metamorphosed into the leading exponents of British folk rock. In the way American folk and blues had looked back to gospel songs and spirituals, Fairport mined a seam a traditional English folk song, and then combined them with rock rhythms to create something ground-breaking and quickly emulated. For many, this is the first time the considerable talents of Richard Thompson, Sandy Denny, Ashley Hutchings, Ian Matthews, Dave Swarbrick and Dave Mattacks would have been heard on record. Original vocalist Jusy Dyble left the group in 1968 and was replaced by Alexandra 'Sandy' Denny. The rest of the line-up remained unchanged, and a move to Island Records saw What We Did On Our Holidays released in January the following year. Denny made her mark immediately with her opening song, Fotheringhay. Her voice, as accomplished as Dyble's but bluesier, added a new bite to the material. As well as Dylan and Joni Mitchell covers, the group began to experiment with traditional folk, covering She Moves Through The Fair and Nottamun Town. The album also includes Meet On The Ledge, Fairport's anthem, written by Richard Thompson., Runningtime: 00:00:00, Cello: Clare Lowther, Design [Sleeve Design]: Diogenic Attempts Ltd., Engineer: John Wood, Performer [Fairport Convention]: Ashley Hutchings, Performer [Fairport Convention]: Iain Matthews, Performer [Fairport Convention]: Martin Lamble, Performer [Fairport Convention]: Richard Thompson, Performer [Fairport Convention]: Sandy Denny, Performer [Fairport Convention]: Simon Nicol, Photography By [Back cover]: Richard Bennett Zeff, Photography By [Front cover]: Annie Brown, Producer: Joe Boyd, Sounds [Prof. Bruce Lacey & his machines]: Prof. Bruce Lacey, Written-By: Sandy Denny, Written-By: Ashley Hutchings, Written-By: Iain Matthews, Written-By: Richard Thompson, Written-By: Ashley Hutchings, Written-By: Richard Thompson, Written-By: Sandy Denny, Written-By: Richard Thompson, Written-By: Bob Dylan, Written-By: Joni Mitchell, Arranged By: Fairport Convention, Written-By: Traditional, Written-By: Richard Thompson, Arranged By: Fairport Convention, Written-By: Traditional, Written-By: Richard Thompson, Written-By: Simon Nicol, Labelcode PPEK2024047.1 (UMCLP047, 0805520240475), Record Company Universal Music Operations Ltd., Record Company Universal International Music B.V., Produced For Witchseason Productions Ltd., Phonographic Copyright (p) Island Records Ltd., Copyright (c) Island Records Ltd., Copyright (c) BMG Rights Management (UK) Limited, Copyright (c) Sony/ATV Music Publishing (UK) Ltd., Copyright (c) Reservoir Media Management Inc., Recorded At St Peters Westbourne Grove, Engineered At Sound Techniques, London, Mastered At TAKT"What We Did on Our Holidays" est un album vinyle emblématique du groupe britannique de folk-rock légendaire Fairport Convention, sorti en 1969.
