Er half auf dem Bauernhof seines Vaters aus und sang fröhlich um das Vieh herum, um dann bei lokalen Veranstaltungen in der Gegend aufzutreten. Dies führte zu Auftritten bei lokalen Radiosendern und von da an nahm seine musikalische Karriere eine vertraute Wendung, als er in mehr Shows auftrat, bis er bei dem kleinen Label Bullet unter Vertrag genommen wurde, wo seine erste Single Jealous Lies leider keinen gro�en Eindruck hinterlie�. Wie so oft spielte das Glück in seiner Geschichte eine Rolle, als er einen Song für seinen Freund Lefty Frizzell schrieb und kurzzeitig ein Zimmerkollege von Hank Williams wurde, dessen Band er sogar leitete, als der gro�e Star 1953 auf tragische Weise starb. Es war jedoch seine wunderbare, vielseitige Baritonstimme, die ihn zu einem echten Country-Star werden lie�, wie Sie auf diesen Seiten hören werden. Sein anderer Anspruch auf Unsterblichkeit in der Country-Musik war seine Innovation, den üblichen 2/4-Takt in einen 4/4-Takt umzuwandeln, der als "Ray-Price-Beat" bekannt wurde und die Popularität der Country-Musik erheblich steigern sollte. Es folgten Hits wie Release Me (ja, das Release Me!), Crazy Arms und Heartaches By The Number und viele mehr. Ray Price wurde 1996 in die Country Music Hall Of Fame aufgenommen und trat noch bis in seine Achtziger hinein auf. Leider verstarb er 2013 im hohen Alter von 87 Jahren in seinem Heimatstaat Texas.
