Yuriy P. - 11/05/2024 Pestilence are not just classics of Dutch death metal, but real pillars of the entire genre, whose discs are not ashamed to rank with the best works of Death and Carcass.
Their first album "Malleus Maleficarum" ("Hammer of the Witch") is very often accused of being too straightforward: in this regard, I immediately hasten to dot all the i's - the children of "Bubonic Plague" - is by no means trivial, on the contrary, it is not like any of the classic bands, although perhaps some parallels can be drawn with their contemporaries Death and Obituary. The vocals are something between the performers of these groups - an angry and hysterical roar. This, of course, is a matter of taste, but I really like this voice. The music, although it was not a revelation even in those years, makes a wonderful impression: energy and power - in abundance! As a result, we have an almost perfect children's cocktail. My favorite songs were "Parricide" and "Bacterial Surgery".
I highly recommend this band in general, and this release in particular, to all fans of the genre.
