- .. NECESSARY / 180GR. Originally released on Led Zeppelin's Swan Song label in 1979, Repeat When Necessary went on to become Dave Edmunds' biggest album. The album was not only his first to chart in the U. K. but his first to make the U. S. Billboard 200. It's lead single, the Elvis Costello-penned Girls Talk, became Dave's biggest hit single since his revival of "I Hear You Knocking," an international smash in 1970. Dave Edmunds and his Rockpile colleagues (including Nick Lowe, who is also featured on this album) epitomized the back-to-basics approach of Great Britain's pub rock scene. The band also incorporated strong power pop and rockabilly influences and paved the way for new wave. This fusion was arguably never more potent than on this album. 7A Records were granted full access to the original master tapes and the album has been remastered for vinyl by Roger Béchirian, who was also the studio engineer for the original release."Repeat When Necessary" is a classic LP by the renowned Welsh musician Dave Edmunds, released under 7a Records. This album, originally launched in 1979, showcases Edmunds' signature blend of rock and roll, pub rock, and new wave influences. Featuring standout tracks like "Girls Talk," written by Elvis Costello, and "Queen of Hearts," which later became a hit for Juice Newton, the record highlights Edmunds? exceptional guitar work and production skills. As one of his most acclaimed solo albums, it captures the energy and craftsmanship that have made him an enduring figure in British rock music. The label behind this release, 7a Records, is known for its dedication to high-quality reissues of classic albums with meticulous attention to detail in remastering and packaging.
Dave Edmunds has enjoyed a prolific career as both a performer and producer since the late 1960s. He gained fame with Love Sculpture before embarking on his successful solo journey marked by hits such as "I Hear You Knocking." His collaborations with Nick Lowe in Rockpile further cemented his status as an influential force within the genre. |
