 | Description: | Decca releases the world-premiere recording of this epic choral work, composed and conducted by
the OSCAR, Grammy and BAFTA award-winning and UNESCO Global Goodwill Ambassador Tan Dun
The monumental work, involving massed choirs, large orchestra, six percussionists and an array of
soloists including indigenous singers, traditional Chinese instruments and a dancing pipa player, is the first
such â??Passionâ?? on a Buddhist rather than Christian narrative
Inspired by a visit to the vast myriad of ancient caves containing countless musical murals in the
Dunhuang desert: â??these musical paintings depict more than four thousand musical instruments, three
thousand musicians and five hundred orchestras
After years of research, composing, and striving to bring the murals to life, Buddha Passion was
completed in 2019
Recorded at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center Concert Hall in 2029 with Orchestre National de Lyon and
International Choir Academy Lübeck, conducted by Tan Dun with eminent Chinese soloists.
Tan Dun will conduct the work to launch The Edinburgh International Festival this summer, on August
4th - Tan Dun - "Buddha Passion" / Buddha Passion is the latest album by world-renowned artist Tan Dun, whose work has made an indelible mark on the world music scene. He has won some of today's most prestigious awards, including a Grammy Award, Academy Award, Grawemeyer Award, Bach Prize, Shostakovich Award - and most recently, Italy's Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement. | | No. of tracks: |
