Description:

Andreas Ulvo is a Norwegian jazz-pianist, keyboardist and composer. He holds a master degree in improvised music and jazz from the Norwegian Academy of Music. His music is an eclectic blend of jazz, pop, classical and folk music, with always his typical â??free improvisation touchâ?? on the piano; â??despite my strong relationship to classical music, as a performer I never had the patience to sit down to learn to read music properly. Reading music felt too much like a detour from my goal of making music. The road to improvised music and jazz was a more immediate and natural way for me to go. However when immersing myself in the standard jazz repertoire, I eventually came to the conclusion that even jazz isnâ??t necessarily free. There are a lot of written and unwritten rules you have to follow. For me the real essence of jazz reveals itself only in the moment you realize that itâ??s not a genre; jazz is music with an improvised qualityâ?. Besides his solo-albums, he has released several albums as Ulvo Ensemble, with Slagr and with his Eple Trio. He has played live and/or has done studio-recordings with Norwegian artists as Jon Eberson, Solveig Slettahjell, Jo Berger Myhre, Thom Hell, Mats Eilertsen, Karl Seglem, Mathias Eick, Ellen Andrea Wang, Froy Aagre and Jonas Sjovaag. For his latest album â??Lost In Spaceâ? Andreas Ulvo (grand piano) has gathered some of his favourite musicians; Giovanna Pessi (baroque harp), Hakon Aase (violin) and Arve Henriksen (trumpet). -
