 | Description: | Shrapnel Storm??s third full-length, titled ??Silo? continues their work within crushing mid-tempo death metal, mixed in with ruthless thrash components of speed and groove. These attributes are on full display over the course of eleven tracks set in a lightning warzone and fits along side the likes of Bolt Thrower, Obituary and Six Feet Under.
The album kicks off ominously reflecting the eerie sounds of oncoming doom and destruction, blasting into one of band??s more fast-paced tunes, followed by brutal stomping and wicked melodies track after track. Compared to their previous works, this album has the most variation when it comes to general "feeling" of songs, going from menacing to empowering. It is a ride of different emotions, all depicting aspects of giving your life to something you believe in, sometimes in vain.
Recording, mixing and mastering of ??Silo? was executed by Daniel Rantanen at Danko Tones / JR Audio studios at first half of 2023, and album was produced by Aadolf Virtanen. The cover and booklet design was made by Ville Yrjola.
Recommended if you like: Bolt Thrower, Six Feet Under & Obituary - You need to move on. No food, no water. You've got miles to go. Dead bodies all along the road, their mangled faces, chills in their bones. You're scared of gunshots, you don't feel the severed arms and legs anymore. March or die! Every time the siren sounds, you want to kill. You've got it in you. The dark side. You're fighting for survival, fighting for the light. You're a killer and a hero. Brains shot out of your head, bullet casings as mute testimony. Someday we'll all meet. First in the sanitarium of madness and then in a cemetery full of white crosses.
War death metal is a very difficult discipline. The band has to be able to create a cold and dark atmosphere. The riffs have to hurt like bayonet attacks. I've been following SHRAPNEL STORM from Tampere since their early days (links to reviews and interview can be found at the bottom of the article). What I've always liked about them is that their records make me feel like I'm right on the battlefield, in the trenches. This year, the band seems like a tank on fire again. They roll forward without mercy, without compromise, leaving only scorched earth in their wake. This is old school to my taste!
The Finns continue to develop their fighting tactics and they are doing it very well. If you are, like me, a fan of bands like BOLT THROWER, OBITUARY, SIX FEET UNDER, DEICIDE, HAIL OF BULLETS, you should get their new album "Silo" into your head. And that's under pressure. It has everything an honest old death metal should have. I feel like I'm directly participating in a black and white documentary about war while listening to it. It doesn't really matter where the fighting takes place, war is always a mess, but it's always interesting to get a glimpse into the minds of the soldiers. SHRAPNEL STORM didn't underestimate anything. They have a great cool and massive sound (Daniel Rantanen at Danko Tones / JR Audio studios, produced by Aadolf Virtanen) and a gloomy and dark cover (Ville Yrjola). But it's mostly the music that I really enjoy. The songs are composed | | Manufacturer No.: |
