Extra-Infos: .. Edition: Complete Emi Classics & Finlandia Recording
Description:The pillars of this 42-CD collection, which spans the years from 1970 to 1997, are Paavo Berglund??s three interpretations of the complete Sibelius symphonies ?? with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Helsinki-born Berglund (1929-2012) is regarded as a father-figure in modern Sibelius conducting. ??His views of the Sibelius symphonies changed over the years,? wrote the New York Times, ??The earlier [recorded] sets prize the music??s dark, Nordic grandeur as well as its clarity of texture. The set with the more compact Chamber Orchestra of Europe takes the fascination with clarity further.? This edition extends far beyond Sibelius, also embracing music by such composers as Shostakovich, Nielsen, Grieg, Smetana, Dvo?ák, Vaughan Williams and Walton, and performances by further orchestras: the London Philharmonic, New Philharmonia/Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, Oslo Philharmonic, and Staatskapelle Dresden. - ..
