Il a connu un immense succès avec son groupe Genesis dans les années 70, avant de se lancer dans une carrière solo prolifique. Ses albums "So" (1986) et "Us" (1992) ont été des succès mondiaux, et ses chansons "Sledgehammer", "Don't Give Up" et "In Your Eyes" sont devenues des classiques.
