Description: | Sex And Death is an album by Durutti Column, released in 2021. The album is a electronic 2-CD. - Two CDs. Deluxe digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1995 album from the legendary Manchester band. The writing and recording of Sex and Death closed an uncertain period for Vini Reilly and the group following the collapse of Factory Records in 1992. Factory founder Tony Wilson remained in post as manager of the band, but Sex and Death would be their last album with producer Stephen Street, famed for his work with Morrissey, The Smiths and Blur. Stand-out tracks include 'Anthony', dedicated to Wilson. Guest musicians include viola player John Metcalfe, vocalist Ruth-Ann Boyle (later to form hitmakers Olive with Tim Kellett), programmer Martin Jackson (Magazine, Swing Out Sister) and bassist Peter Hook, then on furlough from New Order post-Republic.Packaged in a slim double jewel case with a 12-page booklet.
Recorded at Out of the Blue Studios, Manchester, engineered by Nick Garside. Engineered by David Snell at Surrey Sound Studios. 1994 mastering by Gordon Vicary at Townhouse, London.
All tracks on disc 2 written by Vini Reilly (Copyright Control) except (9) + (10) written by Vini Reilly and Rob Gray.
Tracks 1 to 4 are Sex and Death outtakes previously available as a free download (Fac 2.26) via the Durutti Column website.
My Only Love is a version of The Rest of My Life. Tracks 5 to 10 are previously unreleased demo tracks supplied by Vini to Tony Wilson in July 1993. Guests include Rob Gray and Martin Jackson. |
