 | Description: | Written by The Black Keysâ?? Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney with longtime friends Dan â??The Automatorâ? Nakamura and Beck, the celebratory, joyful 'Beautiful People (Stay High)' is one of several songs on the album that feature collaborations between the band and various additional friends and colleagues, including Noel Gallagher, Greg Kurstin, and others. Speaking on the collaborative nature of the album, Carney shares, â??We had this epiphany: â??We can call our friends to help us make music.â?? Itâ??s funny because we both write songs with other people â?? Dan all the time [as a solo artist and producer], me when I'm producing a record. Thatâ??s what we do.â?
Auerbach adds, â??No matter who we work with, it never feels like we're sacrificing who we are. It only feels like it adds some special flavor. We just expanded that palette with people we wanted to work with. We were there to support them and their ideas, to do whatever we could to see that moment flourish. But when it came time to finish the album, it was just Pat and me. We'd never worked harder to make a record,â? he continues. â??It's never taken us this long to make an album. We took our time and did it right.â?
â??What we wanted to accomplish with this record was make something that was fun,â? Carney says. â??And something that most bands 20 years into their career donâ??t make, which is an approachable, fun record that is also cool.â?
While making Ohio Players, a title inspired by the legendary Dayton, OH funk band of the same name, The Black Keys were also DJing dance parties in cities around the world that they called â??record hangs,â? spinning 45s from their own eclectic and growing collections. Mojo reports, â??The spirit of those parties infused the albumâ??s DNA. â??Thatâ??s been the fun of it,â?? [says] Auerbach. â??Letting go a little bit.â??â? - 2024 release. Ohio Players is The Black Keys' fourth album in five years, a momentum with a simple explanation, Auerbach says: "We never stopped recording." There was his and Carney's reunion, after a five-year hiatus, on 2019's "Let's Rock", then the 2021 blast of Mississippi-hill-country covers, Delta Kream. A rapid-fire follow-up of new originals, 2022's Dropout Boogie, featured the duo working with outside writers for the first time: Greg Cartwright of Memphis rockers Reigning Sound and Angelo Petraglia, who has worked with Kings of Leon and the teenage Taylor Swift. (Cartwright and Petraglia are back for Ohio Players too.)Gatefold card sleeve with a fold-out poster insert. The insert has a picture of the duo on one side, and lyrics, credits, thank yous and illustrations on the other.
The bowling ball on the front sleeve and the group photo on the rear sleeve are done in spot varnish.
