Description:??The album is a rerecording/reimagining of our debut album. It's been a bit of a revelation to revisit these songs that were written in the early days of the band. We were getting to know each other as friends and musicians. Lots of laughter and enthusiasm surrounded the writing at a time that held a lot less responsibilities for all of us. Donal, Nick and I had wanted to put the songs down so we could review what we were doing. Basically, we created an album of demos. Very much a live recording with a few overdubs, we then created a cover and made copies for family and friends. Fifty copies were produced and are now something of a rarity. The primitive nature of the recordings perhaps clouded our opinions of some of the songs. The songs were more sophisticated than we originally thought, and we were genuinely surprised by how strong they actually were. There was some naivety to some of my early lyrics, but they do seem to get the message across. It's been wonderful to look again at these songs, adding new lyrics and rearrangements. With the benefit of time and experience the songs now stand better with our best work.? The Memory Cheats by 25 Yard Screamer, released 26 January 2024, includes the following tracks: "Travellers Song", "King Of Nowhere", "I??m An Explosive", "Catapult" and more. This version of The Memory Cheats comes as a 1xCD in a(n) Digipak packaging. -
Hailing from Wales, 25 Yard Screamer formed in 2002 after Donal Owen and Matt Clarke augmented Nick James at a showcase gig in Bracknell, for his then solo project. They released their first album 'The Pictures Within' in 2003, and their second 'Approaching From An Oblique Angle' followed in 2004 both hinting at the progressive influences that were soon to come to the fore. It was with 'Cassandra' in 2007 that they garnered much critical acclaim in the progressive rock and rock circles, drawing comparisons with Marillion, Rush, Porcupine Tree and Metallica. 'Blacklight' taken from the album was chosen as one of the best 100 songs of 2007 in Classic Rock magazine. The following album 2011's 'Until All Are One' showed a darker side to the band while still keeping their progressive leanings. During the recording of their concept album, 2013's 'Something That Serves To Warn Or Remind', Tom Bennett was invited to join the band on a permanent basis after contributing keyboards and orchestrations to it's sessions. 2016 saw the release of the bands 6th studio album. 'Keep Sending Signals' featuring four brand new pieces of music and four reworking's of very early material. Tom departed the band after touring the album. The band then returning to it's original trio line up. 2019's 'Natural Satellite' was more experimental. The track 'The Storyteller' featured Rob Reed of Magenta' guesting on keyboards. Donal departed after the album's release to pursue other projects. In 2022 the remaining duo of Matt and Nick released 'Nemesis' to acclaim, covering topics such as modern miscommunication and redemption. To mark it's Anniversary they both decided to revisit and re-record their debut album, retitled 'The Memory Cheats' it offers an interesting, modern vision of the bands early writing. The band have appeared live at various festivals including Progeny, Cambridge Rock Festival, Weyfest, Danfest and Prog For Peart and Winter's End.
